It Can Happen Anywhere

I've talked about complacency before. It's hard to see it coming but it always happens and it's dangerous.

When working out, the number one thing you need to keep in mind is good form. But when you're doing a lot of weight, or a lot of reps, your muscles get tired. You can and will tend to cheat during your workout. For example, you might start to round your back a little just to finish those last few reps.

There's a lady at the gym who I admire quite a bit. She joined the gym around the same time I did three years ago. She's consistently there. She has a workout routine and she sticks to it, high reps, short breaks, varied exercises. She has the discipline regarding her fitness that I've shown I don't have.

I looked over inbetween sets and saw her in tears. She's a bit masculine and it was similar to seeing a man bawling at the gym; it kind of stood out. She asked one of the personal trainers to examine her. There was nothing out of place but it seems she pulled her back during one of her exercises.

My point is, when you're complacent, you make mistakes. I've previously mentioned how it happens in relationships. And the manly lady showed me it can happen physically during your hobbies. It can certainly happen at work. It can happen anywhere!

I never want to make mistakes, but I'm constantly finding myself more and more complacent. So, how does one keep themselves from further entrenching themselves in complacency?

  1. Guilt. Guilt keeps me from being complacent.

The guilt of unfulfilled commitments makes me feel like crap. Dealing with commitments in a timely manner is important to your personal stress management.

Wow, what a depressing outlook on life.

Lets turn that frown upside down!

Fun-factor. Fun-factor keeps me focused on goals.

Take on commitments that are fun to fulfill. For example, if your goal is exercise, it's easy to commit to playing with your VBall or Dodgeball team. The gym can feel like a chore so there's a chance of bailing if something better comes along. But sports are fun and entertaining! I never bail on sports. Sports is what I look forward to every week.

    Find the fun-factor!
