New Toys

I indulged in my technological desires recently. While working at my parents store a couple weeks ago I had a strong urge to buy a new computer. I was able to suppress those urges for the time being but I purchased a 24-inch HD monitor. My theory was that I could play my 360 on the monitor for the time being and when I get enough money I would purchase a new computer.

Well, I absolutely love the thing. I borrowed David's HD-DVD add-on for the 360 and have been watching his movies. I cannot believe how long I've lived without watching my movies in HD. The experience is just amazing. Plus, this is the first time in a long time where my movies are connected to a subwoofer, so all the bass sounds incredible. My only complaint is that my 360 only outputs in 720p or 1080i. Still scenes are much crisper in 1080i but action sequences are quite blurry. The only solution is to go up to 1080p, which means I need to either upgrade to a new 360 or buy a PS3. I am fine with either option but they both require more money. I feel as if I should wait before I do either.

Next on my big purchases is a new phone. Yes, it was only two months ago where I bought a new Blackberry Curve but I just couldn't stand how slow it was. I was (easily) pursuaded into buying an iPhone 3G. I absolutely love it. There's no awkward formatting that the Blackberry does and surfing the web is the complete experience. I don't watch YouTube videos much but having an app there is quite nice. I haven't loaded any music onto it yet but I'll love the fact that I can carry my music around without carrying another device. My only wish was that Apple had a system like Blackberry's push email. Getting the emails right when they hit the server would be nice instead of having to check the server every once in a while, which I don't really do.

So, I'm trying to sell my Blackberry Curve. I've listed it on Craig's list and asked David to list it on the Embridge boards. I hope to not lose as much money as possible but it seems I may have to take a hit on it. It's the price of the game. Having the newest technology is an expensive hobby. But at least for now, I feel its worth it.

  1. 24 inches? Man that sounds nice. I'm quite happy with my 19". I've been seriously thinking about using my 360 using my monitor, especially considering my tv is the crappiest CRT and I can't see crap on it...

  2. Yeah, 24 inches is pretty damn good. I'm watching movies on it with no problems. Fully satisfied. If you have the right connections for your 360, you should try it out.

What about my pic, Emme? :P
